Update from Boston

From Frank Tully

We value your continued prayer support for God’s work among The Navigators here in Boston. We concluded 2008 with a series of engagements with local stakeholders in our Metro Mission and hosting a Christmas party for our urban ministers network.

2009 is off to a great start as a dozen urban students joined us for an all day “Soul Sabbath” silent retreat on January 8th, and a gathering of Boston Navigators staff on January 16th. Both occasions were marked by Christ-centered fellowship.

As we move forward into 2009, please join us in seeking God’s blessing upon these upcoming ministry opportunities:

  • February 4-6: Center for Urban Ministry – As Gordon-Conwell launches the Spring Term, the urban Mentored Ministry program resumes with Frank Tully teaching a 3 day series on spiritual formation.
  • February 3-15: NE Collegiate Conference – In a new collaboration with our Northeast campus ministries, we have invited Nav alumni to gather for a special Saturday session with college students.

Here is a ministry highlight from Bruce Knutson in Minneapolis, MN. Bruce is Metro staff who works in close partnership with the Navs Collegiate ministry in order to see people continue their walk with Jesus through their lives:

The Fall Collegiate Conference this past autumn was great. Over 350 students attended the Upper Mid-West Collegiate conference called, THE WEEKENDER. Students from Navigator campus ministries in North and South Dakota, Wisconsin and Minnesota attended. One of the goals is to recruit students to a solid walk with Jesus while in college. It has encouraged our hearts to reflect on the impact collegiate staff recruited from this ministry of Fall Conferences have had on the upper mid-west. Ernie, a former pastor, came to me when he was in transition. We were able to assist him in transition into Navigator staff for the University of Minnesota ministry. He has since trained Joe who is currently leading the U of M ministry while other staff are on sabbatical. Greg and Mari Lynn, who lead the North Dakota State University ministry, and Tim and Tara, who are at Whitewater in Wisconsin, were also sent out from our work with Alumni here in Minneapolis.

Thank you for your partnership with us in this ministry. Having a Fall Conference is often the first step in helping students. Many will become long time friends and life long workers for Jesus. Pray for each campus as they begin a new semester and as students plan for the summer or for life after graduation.
