The Greater New York City Metro Tri-State area is an incredible place to minister. It contains unparalleled and unprecedented opportunities to interact with nearly all international people groups: a plethora of diverse unsaved, religious, ethnic, post-modern, atheist, sinful, secularized, precious people living together. The United Nations.
As a Metro team, we have a deeply shared passion to know Christ and passion for people to know Him. We are very aware and energized by the influence NYC has on our nation and the world.
Our staff team meets monthly in Greenwich Village at a great Thai restaurant, a favorite of Peter Trautmann’s, our NYU Collegiate Staff. Speaking of NYU, ministry there is exploding and we are so proud of Peter and his team. They are truly gifted by God to interact with this very complex and diverse student ministry culture. They are also expanding the ministry to the Polytechnic College nearby. We are blessed to also have a large Nav Korean ministry in the city and at local colleges headed by our staff Joon Park and Jaeki. God is doing incredible things through them!
We are delighted to welcome Akio who is part time staff and Japanese. He is currently very active in a Korean cooking evangelistic outreach. He is living as an “Insider” to a group of 10 people he is hoping to reach relationally for Christ.
On the Metro Team, the Puleo’s, along with being involved with the upcoming Greg Laurie Crusade at Jones Beach in June, are active as ever evangelizing and reaching their neighbors for Christ. Andy is also visiting nearby Roosevelt, NY, a community plagued by gang violence and urban blight. Andy has led many to Christ and has befriended Charles who, sadly, lost his uncle to gang violence and has a girlfriend undergoing life-threatening brain surgery.
And we, Ernie and Judy Scalabrin, are seeing our “Insider” ministry growing in Northeastern New Jersey, just outside of Manhattan. We are excited about the expansion of our public school Bible clubs which have reached many young people for Jesus over the past few years, and the impact this has on their families as well. Discipleship is also a big part of these clubs in grades 2-12! Such public school clubs are quite rare in this area. Among other families, we are growing in relationship with the “Georges”. “Frank”, the husband, has come to Christ and I meet regularly with him for relationship and discipleship times. Frank is a highly successful businessman who found success empty and destroying his health, life and family. Frank feels now that he had found his purpose in life; to reach others like himself for Christ! He believes there are many like himself. Frank and I are meeting with his unsaved friend, Sam, who just lost his successful job. Our Insider ministry just expands through the relational networks of people God reaches for Christ through us! These are a few highlights of what God is doing in the Greater NYC Metro Area.
